Workshop, Reading, and Appointment Policies
Wheel of Fate: Policies
Updated July 2026
All shop policies in place are subject to change at any time. Wheel of Fate reserves the right for the Manager on duty to interpret and implement the policies for any situation.
WORKSHOP, READING, AND APPOINTMENT POLICIES
The following policies must be agreed to upon reserving a workshop or appointment at Wheel of Fate. Failure to agree or adhere to these policies may result in the cancellation of your reservation and refusal of entry.
Workshop eligibility
- This section applies to our traditional heritage craft workshops, such as broom making, bookbinding, beginner spinning, and corn dollies. If you are unclear about whether this section applies, do not hesitate to ask.
- All workshops are for crafters 18+ years old only unless otherwise specified. In some cases, if specified on the workshop listing, a crafter ages 13-17 may participate if they are accompanied by a parent or guardian who has also purchased a ticket. When making your booking, please tick the appropriate box to let us know if there is a crafter aged 13-17 in your party, or else we may not be able to accommodate you. We apologise that we cannot allow babies to attend our workshops under any circumstance.
- All workshop attendees must make their own craft individually; two or more crafters may not work on the same craft without prior approval. This also applies to parents/guardians accompanying under-18's.
- All persons present during a workshop or reading must have a reservation. Seats are only for attendees who have paid for their slot, and the space cannot accommodate extra attendees or observers. For those with accessibility concerns, please contact us directly using the contact form so we can make arrangements in advance of your workshop. Please note, we are not able to provide translators.
Craft Witch Eligibility
- This section applies to Craft Witch, our DIY craft space.
- Craft witch sessions are self-led, non-taught crafting sessions. There will be an instructor on hand to help you get set up, guide you through your options, answer questions, and give advice where requested, but the rest is up to you.
- All of the crafts Wheel of Fate offers are designed for adults, and that young people ages 8-17 are allowed to join Craft Witch under the care of an appropriate adult who will help guide them through their craft. Craft Witch is strictly for crafters ages 8+, and that certain crafts are 13+ only as indicated.
- There must be a ratio of one adult to one crafter aged 8-12. There must be at least one crafting adult present for crafters aged 13-17, with a ratio of one adult to every three young crafters aged 13-17. Children aged 7 and under are not permitted in Craft Witch. We do not have space for buggies/strollers.
- Adults assisting young crafters must book and pay for their own seat but are not required to choose a craft.
Reading-specific rules:
- All readings are 18+ with no exceptions.
- One reading per person on any given day (i.e. you cannot book two slots in a row to create a double-length reading). If you are booking appointments for two separate people under the same name, please leave a note for us in your booking.
- We may cancel or ask you to reschedule your reading if you've gotten one recently from any of our readers (within the past four weeks).
- If you need to bring a translator for your reading, we ask that you get in touch at least 72 hours ahead of your reading, as reader policy may vary.
Scheduling & Attendance
Workshop-specific Scheduling rules:
- The workshop opens when the lead instructor invites attendees into the workshop room. Attendees who arrive early may wait in the front room while the instructors prepare for the workshop or reading.
- Attendees who arrive late may not join the workshop after instruction has begun. Those who miss their workshop may schedule to return for a new workshop or take home a kit. Both are subject to availability, and you will not be refunded the difference in price if you choose to take home a kit. For latecomers to readings, the reader may (at their own discretion) permit the attendee to enter and give a reading for the remaining time in their slot. Please see "Cancellation Policies".
Craft Witch-specific Scheduling rules:
- Craft Witch bookings are for up to 90 minutes by default. If you want to add more time on the day, you may add on time for £2 per 15 minutes per person, if there is no booking directly after you.
- If you arrive late to a booking, you may still be admitted for the amount of time remaining in your booking, and we cannot guarantee additional time at the end.
- The time it takes for the instructor to finish your craft for you (using the badge maker, laminating machine, or glue gun) is not included in the booking, meaning you have a full 90 minutes to craft.
- Leather goods and altar cards can be taken home to finish, but pins/badges need to be finished using our badge making machine, so we will be sure to remind you when your time is almost up.
Additional general rules:
- Walk-ins are accepted after all attendees with a reservation have been checked in if there are cancellations or no-shows. Walk-ins are first come, first served based on who is physically present at the door when the workshop or appointment begins. Walk-ins are not guaranteed entry nor any number of spots for any workshop or appointment.
- Wheel of Fate reserves the right to cancel workshops or readings, or close the store at any time for any reason. Any crafters that paid for a cancelled class will receive a full refund.
- Customers who reschedule their appointments through the website are responsible for rescheduling ALL their appointments individually. The shop cannot accommodate mis-scheduled appointments, especially if the class is at capacity.
- Customers who book an appointment for the wrong location will not be given a refund. Our shop is located at 24 Haddington Place, Edinburgh, EH7 4AF. We are no longer located at our previous Causewayside location. We cannot transfer your appointment to our Salem location.
Conduct
- Wheel of Fate reserves the right to refuse visitor entry to a workshop or appointment for any reason.
- If we suspect you are inebriated, we reserve the right to refuse you entry, even if your workshop or appointment is "BYOB". This is for your own safety.
- Unacceptable behaviour, language, and discriminatory behaviour will not be tolerated.
- If you or your party are asked to leave due to unacceptable or disruptive behaviour, you will not be eligible for a refund.
Supplies
- All supplies and crafts are subject to availability. At any given time, a product or craft may become unavailable for any reason.
- All supplies and products in the shop represent what is available at that time. There is no guarantee the shop has alternative, extra, or additional supplies and products backstocked or available for purchase.
- Many supplies and products are made-to-order in small batches by hand in the store. This may affect the availability of supplies and products. Concerns over the quality of an item may be discussed with the Manager on duty, without guarantee of replacement or alternatives based on backstock.
Cancellations & Refunds
- Cancellations for a workshop or appointment communicated via email or phone more than 72 hours in advance are eligible for a full refund.
- Cancellations made within 72 hours of a workshop or appointment are not eligible for a refund. At the managers' discretion, attendees in this case may take home a kit-to-go, but will not be refunded the difference in price (if any).
- Absences for a workshop are not eligible for a refund, and will be considered cancellations subject to the cancellation and refund policies.
- If sufficient notice is given, we may be able to rebook you to another workshop slot (subject to availability). Please note we can only rebook your workshop up to two times. Please call the shop to check availability and rebook.
- If you or your party are asked to leave during the workshop due to unacceptable or disruptive behaviour, you will not be eligible for a refund.
Shipping, Travel, and Customs Declarations
- The customer is responsible for transporting their own craft after the workshop, whether domestically or internationally. We are not able to package or ship your items for you. We do not sell or give away boxes or packaging for shipping items. Customers may want to try Royal Mail, Mail Boxes Etc., FedEx, or similar.
- We work with many organic materials in our workshops, including but not limited to wool, sorghum, leather, feathers, silk, porcupine quills, wheat, shells, antlers, and small animal bones. Many of our customers travel internationally with their crafts, and so should inform themselves about travel restrictions and customs declarations in the country or countries to which they are travelling. We are unable to provide this information, as every country has different rules and regulations.
RETAIL AND SHOP POLICIES
Conduct
- Wheel of Fate reserves the right to refuse a visitor entry for any reason.
- If we suspect you are inebriated, we reserve the right to refuse you entry for your own safety and ours.
- Aggravated actions, violent language, and discriminatory behaviour will not be tolerated, and we may ask you to leave on these grounds.
- We do not allow solicitation or any selling of outside items on our shop floor.
Pets
No pets are allowed in the store, with the sole exception being assistance animals. This is for the safety of your pets, as some of the plant matter we work with is toxic to animals. Additionally, not all of our customers are comfortable around pets. For the safety and comfort of all our visitors and staff, this prohibition also applies to animals carried in bags, strollers, or in arms.
